Soho Boutique Hotels in Morocco

September 15, 2025

Soho is a name that is often kept in a corner of our brain, linked to general knowledge of famous neighborhoods like in New York or London, or exclusive clubs. But today, we are putting the spotlight on a different entity: the Spanish hotel chain Soho Boutique Hotels, known for its "urban beauties" ranging from 2 to 5 stars. In a significant move that underscores its ambitious international strategy, the group has just opened its second hotel in Morocco, choosing a dynamic and interesting destination for its expansion. This new venture, the Soho Boutique Casablanca, starts with a clean slate, without any guest reviews, which presents a perfect opportunity to inform on this growing Spanish chain that has chosen Morocco for its bold entry into the international market.

The Leadership and Vision Behind the Brand Soho Boutique Hotels

The Spanish hotel chain is led by its President, Gonzalo Armenteros de Dalmases, and its CEO and co-founder, Antonio Gordillo, a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the hotel industry. This leadership team has been instrumental in the group's rapid expansion and success. The ethos of Soho Boutique Hotels is founded on the idea of creating "urban oases" that are stylish, comfortable, and centrally located. The brand is celebrated for its ability to integrate contemporary design with the local culture and heritage of its surroundings, often by revitalizing historic buildings. This commitment to a unique and authentic guest experience is a key reason for their success.

Deepening Their Presence in Morocco: The Grand Opening in Casablanca

Soho Boutique Hotels' expansion into Morocco is a reality that is already well underway, with a clear and ambitious strategy. The brand has already established a presence in the country, starting with its first property, the Soho Boutique Tétouan, which opened in 2024. This initial launch was a strategic move to establish a foothold and demonstrate the brand's commitment to the Moroccan market.

Building on that success, Soho Boutique Hotels has now opened its latest property in Morocco, the Soho Boutique Casablanca. Located at 111 Casa Anfa - Financial City, Hay Hassani, this 5-star establishment is a significant step in the group's urban expansion plan. The hotel is designed to serve both business and leisure travelers with a daily buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a terrace, and an outdoor pool. Its 74 units, which include executive studios and premium and royal residences, offer a stylish experience. Guests are within easy reach of key landmarks such as the Morocco Mall, Hassan II Mosque, and Casablanca Cathedral. This new venture is a result of a local partnership with the Kabbaj family, a well-known name in Moroccan real estate and industry. This collaboration highlights Soho Boutique's strategy of working with local investors to ensure a deep-rooted and lasting presence in the country.

A Strong Spanish-Moroccan Connection and Ambitious Future

The expansion of Soho Boutique Hotels is a compelling story because of the deep historical and cultural ties between Spain and Morocco. The brand's success in Spain, particularly in Andalusia, provides a strong foundation for its growth in Morocco. The seamless blend of Spanish hospitality with Moroccan flair is a unique selling proposition that resonates with travelers.

The company has an ambitious plan to open two new hotels per year in Morocco through 2030, backed by a total investment of 30 million euros. The next confirmed project is a beachfront resort in Tangier, slated to open by the end of 2026. The group is also in negotiations for new properties in Rabat and Marrakech.

Soho Boutique's commitment to the country extends beyond just opening new properties. In a major move to invest in local talent, the company plans to establish a tourism academy in Morocco. The brand will invest 5 million Moroccan Dirhams (MAD) annually to train 250 employees each year through this initiative. The project is a collaboration with the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) and specialized schools, and the training will take place in both Morocco and Spain. This initiative reflects a long-term investment in local talent and a dedication to service excellence, a key priority for Soho's Moroccan subsidiary.

Positioning in the Spanish Hotel Market

Soho Boutique Hotels currently operates over 70 establishments in Spain and Morocco, a testament to its rapid expansion since its founding in the Soho neighborhood of Málaga in 2014. The group has a strong presence in Andalusia, with hotels in key cities like Málaga, Seville, Córdoba, Granada, Cádiz, Jerez de la Frontera, Ronda, and Fuengirola. Beyond Andalusia, the brand has expanded its footprint to other major Spanish cities, including Barcelona, Madrid, Salamanca, Santander, and Oviedo. This strategic placement in prime urban and tourist destinations positions them as a significant player in the boutique hotel segment of the Spanish market. While not a top-tier chain in terms of the number of properties when compared to giants like Meliá or NH Hotels, Soho Boutique Hotels has carved out a distinct and successful niche with its focus on design-led, centrally located urban properties and a growing portfolio of resorts under its "Moon Dreams" brand. This dual-brand strategy allows them to capture both the city-break and sun-and-beach market segments, bolstering their competitive position.

Sustainability and Responsible Growth

A key component of Soho Boutique Hotels' brand identity is its commitment to sustainability. The group has earned six official sustainability certifications in Spain and plans to roll out the same eco-friendly standards in its Moroccan operations. This includes reducing plastic use, implementing energy-efficient systems, and promoting a "zero-mile" philosophy by sourcing products from local suppliers. This environmental focus reinforces the brand's goal of responsible growth while meeting the growing demand for green hospitality.

In conclusion, Soho Boutique Hotels is a dynamic and rapidly expanding brand with a clear vision for its future in Morocco. Under the leadership of Gonzalo Armenteros de Dalmases and Antonio Gordillo, the company is not just opening hotels; it is building a lasting presence by investing in local partnerships, cultural integration, sustainability, and talent development. Their story is a testament to the powerful synergy between Spanish business acumen and Moroccan cultural richness, creating a new benchmark for hospitality in the region.

Time for a T.
