Oualidia is Morocco's favourite seaside escape, yet I rarely visit in summer. While July and August bring long sunny days and a lively atmosphere, they also mark the great Moroccan migration to the coast. Families from across the country head for the beaches, restaurants fill quickly and the lagoon becomes far busier than during the rest of the year. If you enjoy vibrant beach life, this is the season to come. If you prefer the Oualidia locals know and love, look beyond the peak months.
Spring, early summer before the school holidays, and autumn reveal a completely different destination. The lagoon returns to its peaceful rhythm, the oysters and seafood are every bit as fresh, and long walks along the beach become part of the experience rather than a search for space. Even in winter, the Atlantic light, mild climate and exceptional gastronomy make Oualidia one of Morocco's most rewarding coastal retreats.
